3 Foods to Avoid if You're Trying to Lose Weight

Updated: Jan 10, 2019

It's difficult to lose weight, and even more difficult when you don't know what is deterring those extra pounds to shed. You might not know it, but these three types of foods could be sustaining your weight. Rid them or cut them out slowly one day at a time, and you'll start to see the benefits of your weight loss plan.

Frozen Meal Plans

Frozen meals are convenient and quick to eat when you're short on time in a busy work/life schedule. They are designed to last long, and to this effect contain tons of sodium and preservatives. Sodium retains water and as a result bloats you up.

Low-Fat Foods

Everyone knows that intake of too much fatty acids (trans and polyunsaturated fat) will help you gain pounds. So low-fat foods should help you lose weight, right? Not exactly. Low-fat foods tend to be laden with sugar because they're lacking in flavor and often has a bland taste.

Artificially Sweetened Drinks

Some swear by diet sodas and other zero-calorie drinks. However, drinking them will further push you to crave more sweetened drinks and desserts. Totally cutting out sugar in your diet causes your body to reduce the amount of insulin that is normally secreted. This hormone suppresses your appetite by telling your body that you are full. People tend to eat more food as a result.
