How to Set Weight Loss Goals

At the beginning of the year, countless people make the resolution to lose weight. The bad part is that by the second week of the year, many have dropped their resolution, and another wave of people drop off in March. The question is, how do you create enough of a lifestyle change that allows you to lose weight and keep it off? The answer is setting SMART goals.

Goal Setting the SMART Way

In the academic and business world, people are encouraged to use a concept called SMART when it comes to setting goals. The acronym SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reasonable and Timely. The same strategy can apply to weight loss.

Specific means giving yourself a target weight to aim for. Measurable means having some system that tracks your achievements, whether it is a scale, body measurements or clothing sizes.Attainable means that it should be a goal that it within your grasp. Depending on your body type and genetics, certain body images may not be.Reasonable means that since you didn't pick up all your weight in a day or a month, you shouldn't expect to lose it that quickly.

Timely means that a time frame should be applied to measure your progress.Weight loss is possible with a plan.
